Champions League quiz: questions and answers

When did the European Cup become the Champions League?

The competition was renamed the UEFA Champions League for the 1992–93 season, so the 1993 final was the first under the new name. This quiz calls finals up to 1992 the European Cup and finals from 1993 the Champions League.

Who won the first European Cup final?

Real Madrid, in 1956, beating Reims.

Where do the answers come from?

Each final is taken from its Wikipedia article and cross-checked against Wikidata, the open database behind Wikipedia. A fact the two sources disagree on is left out. Nations and clubs are named as they were at the time, so West Germany and the Soviet Union appear under those names.

Is there a daily football quiz?

Yes. The Football Quiz has ten new multiple-choice questions every day at midnight UTC, on player careers, finals, the Ballon d’Or and club history, with every answer explained. It is free and needs no account.
