Mystery Player is a daily football player quiz in the “who are ya” style, built on real careers. Search any famous footballer: the row that comes back tells you whether the mystery player shares his nationality and position, whether he was born earlier or later (amber within two years), and which major clubs they both played for — shown with the clubs’ shirts. Eight guesses, one mystery player a day, and every clue is a recorded fact from Wikidata, never a current club that a transfer could make wrong.
Is this like “who are ya” football games?
Yes — it is the same guess-the-footballer idea: guess, read the clues, narrow it down. Ours compares facts that never go out of date (nationality, position, birth year, clubs ever played for) instead of a current team or shirt number.
What does “clubs in common” mean?
The number of major clubs that both your guess and the mystery player have played for at any point in their careers. Their shirts are shown, so a green cell is a real lead.
How many guesses do I get?
Eight. The answer is revealed at the end with the player’s photo and full career.
Is it the same player for everyone?
Yes — one mystery player a day for everyone, changing at midnight UTC.
When does the puzzle change?
At midnight UTC — one puzzle per game per day, the same for everyone.
Where does the data come from?
Player puzzles use real club careers from Wikidata, the open database behind Wikipedia (public domain, CC0). Every clue is a career fact — a club a player has played for at any point, or the country he represented — so a transfer never makes an answer wrong. List puzzles use settled football history. Every puzzle is checked before it is published.
